BlueRock Diamonds has resumed mining at its Kareevlei diamond operation in South Africa after an inspection by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy had halted work.
The Northern Cape province miner said 26 January operations commenced again the prior day without disruptions, about a week after the DMRE visited the mine unannounced and instructed the operator to suspend activities until contraventions under Section 54 and Section 55 of the Mines Health and Safety Act were rectified.
BlueRock confirmed it has installed a fire-retardant conveyor belt and activation of proximity distance sensors on plant at the mining operation.
Kareevlei, located about 100 kilometres northwest of Kimberley, is made up of about 3,000 hectares of mining rights and is considered one of the top 10 kimberlite mines in the world.
